In a declassified document released by NASA yesterday, it was revealed that an astronaut on the Apollo 11 mission attempted to eat a moon rock.
The astronaut, who has not been identified, reportedly became “hungry and disoriented” after several hours on the lunar surface, and decided to try and eat a small piece of the moon rock.
Fortunately, the astronaut was quickly stopped by fellow crew member, who managed to talk him out of it.
It is not clear what would have happened if the astronaut had succeeded in eating the moon rock, but NASA officials say that it could have potentially caused “gastrointestinal distress.”
